Before attempting to clean cotton, we would advise always checking the label to ensure no specific care instructions are required. Generally, cotton should be hand or machine washed at 30°C or below. Colored cotton garments should be turned inside out before washing. Before allowing to air dry naturally, cotton can be gently stretched when they come out of the wash to restore shape.
Lace is a beautiful yet delicate fabric, and will need to be cleaned properly to prolong its life. If your lace becomes stained, it will need to be cleaned quickly as stains can stick to the lace fibres permanently if left untreated for too long. We advise hand washing your lace garment in warm water, unless specified on the item’s care label. Massage the soapy water into the lace and leave to soak for around 30 minutes. Rinse well, and press out excess water. Never wring or twist lace fabric. Place on a clean, dry towel and press gently to remove excess water, and then lay flat to air dry naturally. If you do decide to clean lace in the washing machine using a gentle wash cycle, it is advised to first place it in a laundry bag to protect it from getting damaged.
Few fabrics feel as luxurious as silk, and in order to keep it in its original condition for longer, we recommend carefully following the care instructions found on each individual item’s label. If your silk is not dry clean only, then it can be hand washed in lukewarm water with a delicate detergent. It is advised to clean silk using a lower temperature to other fabrics, as hot water can affect the material’s natural properties and damage to the fibres. We also recommend selecting a specially-formulated silk detergent, which will be gentler on its natural proteins. Avoid spot cleaning silk, as rubbing in only one area can cause the material to lighten in just that spot. Silk should not be tumble dried, and instead can be laid flat to dry naturally. If you must wash in the machine, select a gentle, cold-water cycle, place in a laundry bag for additional protection and promptly remove from the washer to reduce any wrinkles. If the care label on your silk item says that it can be ironed, then use a low iron setting and ideally iron while it is still slightly damp.
